Core Program
Become a Core Based Big. This program is what our organization is famous for. The match ventures out into the community. Go play basketball, go to the park, read a book together or just sit down to eat popcorn and watch a movie together. Whatever you two find fun and intersting!  All of these last but moments, but the impact on a child’s life is BIG!
You do not need any kind of speical skill sets or any specified education level. You just need the heart to make a difference in a child's life. You do need need to be young to volunteer. You can be any age to mentor a child.

        Mentors must:

  • Be at least 18 years old,
  • have a valid driver’s license, insured transportation,
  • reside within our service area, and
  • pass our background checks.
  • commit to a full calendar year
  • spend anywhere from 2-3 hours with their Little either weekly or bi-weekly.

Site Based Programs

Sometimes the world moves so fast we feel that we have no time to make a difference in a child's life. Well now we have a program for you. Our site based mentoring usally takes place on school grounds where you and yoru Little have lunch together, play on the basketball courts, go to the library, the computer lab, or just hang out The possibilites are endless! Remember how cool it was when you were a kid and an adult came to visit you at school and had lunch with you? Everyone eats lunch, so now just spend your lunch hour with a new friend. Call us today to have lunch with your Little Buddy.

  • 1 hour a week
  • 1 year commitment
  • Choose your prefered school
  • no expectation of tutoring but can help with academics if you so choose

Business Owners: We are always looking for businesses to participate in our school program. Give everyone 1 hour a week off to mentor a child. Call today to learn how you can impact the life of children.

Project SUCCEED

(Students Utilizing Caring City Employees for Education and Development)

This program is a fabulours and easily accomplished opportunity for the employees of the city of Staunton to give back tot he community it serves. City Manager, Stephen Owen, has generously given the green light for city employees to take one paid hour a week to participate in the Lunch Program. If you work for the city of Staunton, what's stopping you from volunteering? Call us today.

Project Y-Bigs

Now, thanks to the Staunton YMCA, there is a new initiative called Y-Bigs. The Staunton YMCA will be recruiting mentors from their membership to participate in a school based program in the Staunton school system. We are very excited about this partnership! We believe that both organizations together will better impact the commonwealth we share. Through this program, we hope to not only build stronger kids but a stronger community.

Special Events Volunteer

We need volunteers not just for Bigs but for other activities we host throughout the year. We need help with fundraisers like our golf tournament, auction and of course Bowl for Kids' Sake. We also host activites just for our Bigs and Littles that could use more volunteers like you! This is a great way to get some experience or much needed community service hours for classes.  If you are intersted please call 540-851-0257

Volunteer Board Member

Our current board averages about 13 members, but we are always looking for dedicated community members to become a part of our organization. If you are interested in learning more being apart of our board please contact Judith Shuey at 540-851-0882.
